February 10th at the Silver Star Cafe in Park City

I will be performing at the Silver Star Cafe in Park City on Friday February 10th.  The show is free and begins at 8 PM.  This flyer was created to entice you to come along...

Love and Laughter

Last March my friend Buzzy and I recorded a session of songs together.  He recently posted this one up on Youtube.  "Love and Laughter" was written in New Zealand while on an extended trip.  It's a song about missing a loved one and traveling great distances to end a period of separation.  This song is featured on the "Mellow Me" album available on ITunes.

Friendship... A Park

If you walk south from San Diego along the ocean... far enough, you'll come to a series of steel panels erected to make a fence, each sequentially numbered, it is the border between the United States of America and Mexico.  Unlike many borders this border doubles as a park, "Friendship Park".  In the park a portion of the border fence is chainlink, families sit on either side and picnic together passing food and other items between the gaps in the chain link.  Where the border fence runs into the ocean, it changes from the numbered steel panels to steel pilons driven into the ground.  Children taunt the border patrol men standing guard on the United States side by throwing balls into the waves and running out after them, sometimes chasing them across the border onto the US beach.

This website tells more about the park and it's goal: http://friendshippark.org/html/History/

After spending an afternoon at Friendship Park I went home and wrote this song.

On the Radio

I will be appearing on radio station KPCW this Friday at 5:45 PM to promote the show later that night at the Silver Star Cafe.  If you are in the Park City area you can tune in to FM 91.9.  You can also go to http://www.kpcw.org/ and click on the "Streaming Live" link.  Tune in and listen!

I Believe

My son West was born in our bedroom on a sunny afternoon in December 2010.  A calmness filled the air when he come into the world, few things outside of the room and the birth experience could enter my mind and awareness when we first met.  It was one of those experiences that captured every ounce of attention and emotion within me.  Soon after his birth the reality of our place in the world, and the condition of the world my son had just been born into started to present itself to me.  My ears became aware of the freeway only miles away roaring in the distance and the power poles lining our street buzzing in a constant hum of delivery.  Soon I was aware of the cellphone in the midwife's pocket emitting invisible signals into the otherwise peaceful air.  We are born into a commotion so normal that it is difficult to contemplate how much is at work at all times, every moment of every day.

This song is the first song I wrote after West's birth and the first song I have written for West.  He is still too young to know what it is I am singing to him, but he understands rhythm and melody, and he tells me this in the way he shakes his hips, bends his knees, and rocks his head while he dances.
